Burlingame Intermediate School
The new two-story, 12 classroom building is for a growing middle school campus. Hamilton & Aitken sited the building to enclose the lower courtyard, creating an attractive gathering area that acts as the heart of the campus. Most classrooms have outdoor learning patios, and two of the lower classes can be opened to each other, creating an area that can accommodate larger groups. The surrounding outdoor areas are being designed to maximize use, featuring multiple socialization spaces, outdoor classrooms, planted areas for exploration, and sustainable design elements that can act as teaching tools. The building's design allows for maximum energy and water efficiency.
