Building Efficiency for a Sustainable Tomorrow Center

The Building Efficiency for a Sustainable Tomorrow (BEST) Center at Laney College will train students in green construction practices and demonstrate principles for design and construction of Zero Net Energy buildings. The Center supports three pedagogical opportunities, reflected in the particular qualities of three distinct structures. These include two conjoined “Test Houses,” the “Living Classroom,” constructed adjacent is required to LEED certify, to meet the low-energy criteria “Passivhaus” program, and to illustrate general principles for the high-performance building.
